By donating $4 to replant 1 fruit tree or $155 to replant 1 dunum, you can help stop Israeli deforestation and clearing of Palestinian lands.

Israeli occupation forces and settlers have systematically uprooted mature olive, citrus and other productive fruit trees, on which farmers depend for their livelihood.
The land area uprooted so far is more than the total land area reclaimed in the West Bank between 1990-1995. This punitive campaign is aimed at deforesting and clearing land in areas near Israeli settlements to block Palestinian development and facilitate settlement expansion. The agricultural sector has suffered more losses than any other Palestinian economic sector, in crop, soil and infrastructure damage.

Welfare Association is inviting individuals and concerned organizations to contribute toward a project launched to fund the reforestation of damaged Palestinian lands, particularly in border areas. The project has already disbursed $118,000 in a pilot phase for 7 replanting projects in 14 areas in Gaza and the West Bank. The project was carried out using a participatory process with beneficiaries and stakeholders, and was implemented by two Palestinian agricultural NGOs. Besides the positive environmental impact of the replanting, the project also provides jobs to young Palestinians and offers food security and promotes self-reliance of farmers.

Pilot Phase
So far the project has provided fruit tree seedlings to farmers in the worst affected lands in the Nablus, Ramallah, and Hebron areas and in the Gaza Strip and assisted in rebuilding retaining walls, water catchments and site preparation. Farmers and local committees contributed land, labor and materials totaling approximately 25% of the project costs.
-32,000 trees planted
-1,200 dunums planted in 18 villages at 278 different locations
-200 families benefited
Contributions cover the distribution of the seedlings as well as the monitoring and supervision of planting. The total cost of planting, which includes the cost of seedlings, rebuilding destroyed retaining walls and preparation of land, is $155 per dunum.

The project is being implemented by the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees-Jerusalem and the Union of Agricultural Work Committees-Jerusalem, and supervised by Welfare Association. This project was initiated and prepared by the Welfare Association Supporters' Committee in Jordan.
