Emergency Appeal to Relieve our People in Gaza

24 January 2008

Currently over 1.5 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are suffering under unprecedented hardship as a direct result of  Israel closing all crossings into Gaza, cutting it off from all supplies of food, medicine and fuel including humanitarian aid. As a direct consequence, the situation is approaching a humanitarian catastrophe as people are increasingly suffering from hunger, thirst, fuel shortages, and dwindling medical supplies. The Israeli policy of collective punishment imposed on the people of Gaza has led to a situation where poverty and unemployment have both reached staggering rates of over 80%, and where up to 85% of the population is solely dependent on the very humanitarian assistance which is being denied.

With most resources depleted and the situation worsening rapidly Gazans have broken the siege and found temporary reprieve through limited access to supplies through the Egyptian borders. Once this border has been resealed the situation will continue to rapidly deteriorate. Accordingly, immediate assistance is required in helping to alleviate some of their suffering.

Your support, through Welfare Association, will go along way in helping mitigate the suffering of the Gazans. For only $100 (US), a family will be provided with the monthly basic necessities of food, water, and clothings required to survive its on-going hardship with dignity.

All aid provided will be distributed transparently and effectively through accredited local Welfare Association partner NGOs operating across the Gaza Strip. To date Welfare Association has allocated $250,000 (US) from its own resources and a further $250,000 (US) has been committed by its Board members.

Your assistance will make a difference – for regular updates on Appeal’s status, please refer to Welfare Association’s website: www.welfareassociation.org .

WA Coordinates Donations for Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza
                                         27 March 2007

: Pledges/Contr. Recd.    : $148,000 as of 8 November 2007
  Balance Requested                 :$252,000

The Welfare Association continues to receive   donations for Al- Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza in an   attempt to help support needs of the hospital   affected by the recurrent violence in the City. The   campaign which has been launched early this year  aims to secure US$400 thousand to procure the   urgently needed mammogram machine, renovate   the cancer clinic and the burns treatment unit,   provide food baskets, support additional staff   salaries, provide medical supplies and fund the   mobile medical units attached to the hospital.

Because of its location in the centre of the City, Al   Ahli Arab Hospital, which was the first NGO   hospital to operate in Gaza, is able to receive   casualties from a number of heavily populated   neighborhoods. It works closely with the   Palestinian Ministry of Health, so when there is a   demand for patient care, Al-Ahli Arab Hospital is     the first to receive the overflow from the government hospital in the central area     of Gaza.

"Family to Family" Assistance

The Welfare Association (WA) began implementing a "Family to Family" emergency humanitarian program to assist Palestinian families who have lost their ability to earn an income due to the Israeli blockades on Palestinian population centers, in force since the beginning of the Intifada.

By donating $4 to replant 1 fruit tree or $155 to replant 1 dunum, you can help stop Israeli deforestation and clearing of Palestinian lands.

Israeli occupation forces and settlers have systematically uprooted mature olive, citrus and other productive fruit trees, on which farmers depend for their livelihood.
